OUR APPROACH

How HIAT Empowers Scholars

HIAT scholar in the classroom.

Focused on Every Child’s Growth

At the Higher Institute of Arts & Technology, we create a calm, inclusive, and culturally responsive environment where every scholar is encouraged to learn, express, and thrive. As Merrillville’s first and only tuition-free charter school, we blend arts integration, hands-on technology, and evidence-based instruction to meet scholars where they are and help them grow.

Learning Beyond the Classroom

At HIAT, learning is active, creative, and connected to the real world. Scholars explore robotics, STEM, dance, gaming, visual arts, and a growing selection of extracurricular programs—including flag football, volleyball, cheerleading, and more. Experiential learning, project-based activities, and opportunities for inquiry help scholars collaborate, question, and innovate.

With a focus on creativity, leadership, and community, our approach empowers scholars to reach their full potential and build a strong foundation for lifelong success.
